Why I Am Running... |
I purchased land in the Deer Creek area in 1996 and completed our home in 1998. Knowing the reputation of the Deer Creek School system, I wanted to see my grandchildren live in the district so they could benefit from such a great education. In 2001, that was accomplished. I’ve seen the district’s rapid growth and it’s effect on the school. Through activities with my grandson, who is a junior at DCHS, and regular volunteer work within the school, I’ve become very concerned about the future of the District. My preschool granddaughter will not experience the quality of education that I saw when I first purchased land in 1996. Deer Creek’s growth is putting our schools in jeopardy. My background is in management. I have managed both large and small companies and this background in management, planning, organization and leadership is what is needed at this point in the District’s “life”. While “band-aids” will need to be put on problems as they arise, they have to fit within a large master plan to reduce waste of time and money. This master plan, its development and implementation, is where my background and availability of time to devote to the District will get us back on track. While our education administration concentrate on keeping our academic quality high, we need to insure the physical facilities, information technology, arts and athletic facilities are planned and built for our FUTURE needs. No longer can facilities be built on models that our school children outgrow before they are even built. This takes management and leadership. This plan will be expensive. And will need to “think outside the box” and beyond the traditional ad valorem tax bases. We have grown from a 3A district to 5A and are headed toward 6A very quickly. A plan is needed and management of the plan is imperative. To bring in quality educators and athletic leadership, we have to have a plan to take us to the next level. No longer do we need to be trying to catch up with our growth, we need to plan for it, manage it and get ahead of the growth curve. Only by doing this, can Deer Creek maintain a prestigious level of education, leadership and an excellent reputation. Our children deserve it and I am ready to put the time, effort, planning and leadership into the Deer Creek School Board to make a difference. It is time for change…change for the better…change for the children. Communication is the key to improvement and I want to communicate with the patrons of the District. You deserve to know what is going on and have someone to listen to your ideas and opinions. The members of the Board do not have all the answers. It takes listening to all the patrons, researching other district successes and failures, and putting the time and effort into Deer Creek Schools. I have that time and the experience to make a difference at Deer Creek and I want to help. |
