Deer Creek Needs a Long Range Plan ...

The lack of an overall, long-range plan is why and how Deer Creek is behind in school expansions. The growth models for what we are now seeing in population were evident many years back. It is time to get a plan of action, get back on track and eventually be able to be ahead of the growth curve.

A Distict-wide long-range plan must be developed as soon as possible. Within the overall plan will be many smaller plans encompassing areas such as physical plant/buildings, information technology, athletics and athletic facilities, teacher education programs, media development and facilities, music and arts programs and facilities, training facilities and programs, and transportation, just to name a few. We have to plan and manage all facets of the district and educational opportunities because what turns one student on to school and learning may not work for another. We have to be all inclusive.

While preparing young people for life is the objective, different elements are needed to be sure all students are receiving the best education possible. My background is in management. I have managed both large and small companies and this background in management, planning, organization and leadership is what is needed at this point in the District’s “life”. While “band-aids” will need to be put on problems as they arise, they have to fit within a large master plan to reduce waste of time and money. This master plan, its development and implementation, is where my background and availability of time to devote to the District will get us back on track.

While our education administration concentrate on keeping our academic quality high, we need to insure the physical facilities are planned and built for our FUTURE needs. No longer can facilities be built on models that our school children outgrow before they are even built. This takes management and leadership.

We have grown from a 3A district to 5A and are headed toward 6A very quickly. A plan is needed and management of the plan is imperative. To bring in quality educators and athletic leadership, we have to have a plan to take us to the next level. No longer do we need to be trying to catch up with our growth, we need to plan for it, manage it and get ahead of the growth curve. Only by doing this, can Deer Creek maintain a prestigious level of education, leadership and an excellent reputation. Our children deserve it and I am ready to put the time, effort, planning and leadership into the Deer Creek School Board to make a difference. It is time for change…change for the better…change for the children.
